The over 50s still have a spring in their step when it comes to romance according to new research from Saga Magazine. One in 20 over 50s say they plan to take a romantic break with their partner this Valentine's Day, with top destinations for kindling romance being the UK, Spain and France.
The research also shows that passion remains high on the agenda, two thirds of over 50s say they still have an active sex life and a quarter say they enjoy it at least once a week. Holidays appear to ignite their passion though as 57% say they are friskier on holiday than at home.
Interestingly there are some significant differences between men and women when it comes how often they have sex. Two thirds (60%) of men say that they have an active sex life, compared to half of women. Are men exaggerating and indulging in some wishful thinking or are women blanking memories? However when it comes to holidays, 63% of women say that they are more frisky on holiday, compared to only 53% of men.
Emma Soames, editor-at-large, Saga Magazine commented: "It isn't just the young and in love who use Valentine's Day to put some fizz into their sex lives. From this research it is clear that the over 50s don't let the event pass without celebrating it in the most intimate way. They too know that a holiday is a brilliant way of reigniting romance away from the drudgery of daily life, cosying up in a lovely hotel bed. And it's great to read that so many over 50s report that they still enjoy an active sex life at home and away"
