New NHS guidance - it's not just about living longer, it's about ageing well says SagaMonday 14 July 2014
Commenting on new NHS guidance that states that health workers should "take advantage" of significant life events among the middle-aged to get them to be healthier Paul Green, Saga’s director of communications said:
New NHS guidance - it's not just about living longer, it's about ageing well says Saga
"It's important that as a society we recognise that it's not just about living longer, it's about ageing well. Recent research has shown that we may be a world leader in the quality of our healthcare when illness strikes, and even have some of the best mortality rates, but for many these extra years are in ill or deteriorating health.
“Our NHS is facing an unprecedented crisis, so there needs to be a sea-change in our attitudes towards healthcare, moving from treatment to prevention. By putting in place more preventative measures that will help people age-well and also help people fully understand what constitutes a healthier lifestyle, it could help reduce NHS costs and help people live longer and healthier lives".
