Over 50s ready for carrier bag levyWednesday 4 June 2014
Commenting on plans to charge shoppers in England for carrier bags in a bid to cut down on waste, Paul Green, director of communications, Saga Group, said:
Over 50s ready for carrier bag levy
“England's over 50s welcome the 5p levy as it will help make England a cleaner and greener place for all.
"Our poll of over 11,000 over 50s has shown that three fifths of them will make more use of old bags while shopping when this law comes into force. One in 10 say they will make more effort to squeeze extra groceries into bags, while more than a fifth say they will buy more reusable bags. This suggests that the over 50s will adapt and change their habits accordingly."
