Are you ready for Saga’s Cuban hills and heels tour?
Hummingbirds and Hemingway
- Wonder at the island’s unspoilt landscapes and bio-diversity
- Walk along wide boulevards which reveal a remarkable history
- Getting dancing at the world-famous Tropicana cabaret club
Nobel Prize winner and author Ernest Hemingway loved Cuba and made it his home for 20 years.
Saga guests can discover why he loved this unique island on a 15-night Cuba Libre escorted journey, exploring colonial cities and towns as well as discovering unspoilt landscapes.
Spend three nights in the capital Havana, where the streets pulsate with music and the rumble of 1950s Chevrolets and Buicks.
Take a Hemingway excursion to all of his favourite haunts or wander along broad boulevards where the faded pastel shades of Spanish colonial buildings enhance their charm.
Catch the waft of cigar smoke and make the most people-watching while pausing in a café or bar. In the evening visit the Tropicana nightclub and cabaret where the sensual Cuban rhythms get everyone on their feet.
Swap those Cuban heels for Cuban hills and prepare for a spectacular change of scenery with a visit to Las Terrazas Nature Reserve, high in the Sierra Del Rosario mountain range. Here hummingbirds and butterflies fill the air and tropical flowers burst into colour.
Spend three nights at Vinales Valley, known for its Jurassic limestone formations. Explore Indian caves and take a boat in this beautiful untouched part of the island.
Next stop: Cienfuegos, but pause at the historic Bay of Pigs, where Fidel Castro’s revolutionary regime saw off the 1961 invasion and was at the core of the Cuban Missile Crisis of October 1962.
Spend three nights in Cienfuegos, a UNESCO-protected coastal town with a magnificent central square.
Drive to Trinidad, on the Caribbean coastline, passing plantations of mango, pineapple, guava and orange. Take a tour of the town which boasts music, culture, history, museums and beaches – something for everyone.
Head to Varadero, stopping at the final resting place of Che Guevara, before spending the rest of the holiday at the all-inclusive Melia Varadero beach resort to relax after the unforgettable Cuba Libre adventure!
15 nights from £1799, departing London Gatwick from September to November 2014 and January to March 2015. Extend the holiday by seven nights staying at Hotel Breezes Jibacoa from £399.
Price includes VIP door-to-door chauffeur service, return flights, airport taxes, accommodation, most meals, porterage, tour manager, travel insurance and cancellation cover.
