Commenting on Conservative plans to merge income tax and National Insurance, Saga director, Paul Green commented:
Conservative tax plans welcome providing there's no sleight of hand
"This is a welcome and long overdue simplification. It would bring clarity about the true burden of taxes on income.
“However, in any reform it will be important to ensure that there is no sleight of hand with increased taxes for pensioners who currently do not pay National Insurance once they reach the state retirement age. This is something which recognises their lifetime of contributions.
“The nations Saga generations would not be forgiving of any move to kebab them with higher taxes, no matter how stealthy."
