People working longer because they enjoy workThursday 8 May 2014
Responding to Towers Watson report that says that people are having to work longer, Saga's Lisa Harris comments:
People working longer because they enjoy work
"Today's report highlights that people are rightly starting to change their expectations of retirement - and that's no bad thing. With increasingly life expectancy many people don't want to be turfed out of their jobs just because of something as arbitrary as age. Our research has shown that whilst people are working longer, 88% of those have chosen to do so citing enjoyment of work as their primary reason for continuing.
"Staying in work is also cruicial to the economy. Over 50s account for more than 47% of UK household expenditure in 2012, and this is on an upward trajectory as many are sweeping aside the standard view of retirement and choosing to continue working full time or becoming partirees - choosing to balance part-time work with retirement or childcare for their grandchildren."
