Discover ‘gentle tourism’ in Khaolak where no development is taller than a palm tree on Saga’s new all-inclusive holiday at Thai beachfront resort
Elegance and elephants!
Relax in an elegant resort beside pristine Khaolak beach and when rested ride an elephant through the rainforest, release turtle hatchlings into the sea or take a longboat to the ‘James Bond’ island of Ko Khao Phing Kan, on Saga’s new all-inclusive holiday in Thailand.
Khaolak Beachfront Resort QQQQ+ is set beside a golden sandy beach, lapped by the clear, warm water. Saga guests stay in pool-view or garden-view rooms at this adults-only contemporary hotel. Khaolak has a string of beaches that run along a 25-kilometre stretch of the Andaman Sea, backed by the mountainous Khaolak-Lam Ru National Park – part coast, part jungle and home to a huge variety of wildlife, flora and fauna.
The endangered leatherback turtle lays eggs on beaches in the area and are under the protection of conservation projects. Saga guests can visit the Sea Turtle Conservation Centre at Chulaporn Marine Park and when seasonal timings allow, assist in releasing the hatchlings into the sea.
Animal-lovers can also opt to ride an elephant through the rainforest, guided by a mahout, and later jump on a bamboo raft to drift through the rainforest to see Thonpring waterfall.
Guests can also take a full day’s tour to Phang Nga Bay to view spectacular scenery – towering cliffs, vast limestone massifs and dramatic caves as well as mangrove forest. Film buffs will relish the opportunity to take a longboat to the forested islands of Ko Khao Phing Kan, where Roger Moore filmed The Man with the Golden Gun.
Back at the hotel there are plenty of activities - join Zumba, yoga, step aerobics and aqua aerobics classes, play beach volleyball or try windsurfing or kayaking. Thai cookery classes are also an option while in the evenings there are dance shows and a disco night by the pool.
Bars, shops and restaurants can be found in the centre of Khaolak, just a five-minute walk from the resort. Here guests will find a gentle style of tourism with no development taller than a palm tree.
