The Grand Tour of Switzerland
Follow in the footsteps of 19th century travellers and discover Switzerland's timeless beauty on an exhilarating tour through alpine villages and historic cities to see sparkling glacial lakes and snow-topped mountains.
Fly to Zurich and travel by train to Davos, the highest town in the Alps, for a two-night stay at the Hotel Sunstar Davos. Breathe deep to enjoy the crystal-clear air and take advantage of a complimentary travel card to explore the resort by train, bus or cable car.
Board the narrow-gauge Bernina Express for one of Switzerland's most scenic railway journeys. Cross the Bernina Pass, snake through tunnels and pass circular viaducts to reach Tirano in Italy. Explore the old town and take the bus along the beautiful shores of Lake Como to Lugano.
Guests can also opt for an excursion to the stylish resort of St Moritz to experience the dry sparkling 'champagne climate' where the sun shines for an average 322 days a year. Enjoy views of the upper Engadine valley or browse the designer shops.
Hop aboard a train for the short journey to Bellinzona for a two-night stay at the Hotel Internazionale. Bellinzona is the historic gateway to Italy and home to three UNESCO-protected medieval castles. Follow the William Tell route for a journey through Central Switzerland. At Flüelen, transfer to the William Tell ferry, an old-fashioned paddle-steamer, and glide across the lake to Lucerne for a guided tour of the city.
This tour continues with a train ride Interlaken, which lies between Lake Thun and Lake Brienz. Enjoy the views or opt for a half-day train excursion to Locarno on Lake Maggiore and walk the narrow lanes to see the vast Piazza Grande.
The village resort of Wengen, in the heart of the Bernese Oberland, is next on the itinerary with a three-night stay at the Hotel Sunstar Wengen. Take an exhilarating cable-car ride to the 2,970-metre summit of Schilthorn – the revolving Piz Gloria restaurant was featured in the 1969 James Bond film On her Majesty's Secret Service.
There will also be time to take a train through the Jungfraujoch, which at 3,454 metres is home to Europe's highest railway station.
To round up the grand tour, travel to Bern for a one-night stay at the Best Western Bern Hotel. Learn more about this beautifully preserved historic city on a fascinating guided tour before farewell drinks and dinner.
