Seduced by India’s exotic Marigold Hotel scenes?
Follow in the footsteps of the Best Exotic Marigold Hotel's actors on Saga’s new India the Exotic escorted tour through Rajasthan, where the filming took place.
Starry-eyed guests may not see their heart-throb Marigold actors but there will an opportunity to visit the Marigold hotel location, ‘The Viceroy Club’, flower markets and lakeside temples which featured in the film. Best of all, guests can relax in luxury heritage hotels that the Marigold’s proprietor Sonny Kapoor would envy!
This evocative tour begins with a flight to Delhi and an overnight stay at the Heritage Village & Spa Resort Manesar. Travel on to the 'Pink City' of Jaipur and stay at Ramgarh Lodge, the elegant former hunting retreat of the Maharaja of Jaipur. En route, jump into a jeep for a drive through the village of Shahpura.
Spend four nights in vibrant Jaipur; see marigold garlands in the bustling flower market where actor Dev Patel strolled in the perfumed air.
Marvel at the Amber Fort’s ornate interiors and the latticed fascia of Hawa Mahal, the Palace of the Winds, before taking a rickshaw ride. There will also be plenty of free time so guests can take lunch in the 19th-century Kanota Castle – location of ‘The Viceroy Club’.
Travel to Deogarh, pausing for a break at the Phool Palace Hotel, a former royal retreat and another film site.
Next stop, the Deogarh Mahal, a former palace where guests stay for three nights. From here, board a train to ride through the Rajasthani countryside. Those who want to see more can also take a vintage car ride and visit the island fortress of Seeng Sagar for a campfire and evening barbecue.
Travel to Delwara, near Udaipur, for a four-night stay at the Devi Garh by Lebua, a former palace dating to the 18th century. See the majestic Jain temples of Ranakpur and the grand temple's 1,444 pillars.
Explore the majestic City Palace, Rajhastan's largest palace complex which towers over Pichola Lake, and visit the magnificent 17th century Jagdish Temple. Later, take a walk through Chandpur where the Marigold market scenes were filmed.
The tour would not be complete without seeing the Best Exotic Marigold Hotel location, Ravla Khempur, deep in the countryside. Guests can enjoy lunch here to conclude this unique tour that captures all the rich history and dazzling colour of modern-day India with added Marigold magic!
