Celebrate the 150th anniversary of Beatrix Potter’s birth New three-night break from £239

Hop, skip and jump to Peter Rabbit's Lake District with Saga

Beatrix Potter’s literary characters Peter Rabbit, Mrs Tiggy-Winkle, Jemima Puddle-Duck and friends continue to bring great joy to children but perhaps her greatest gift was to the nation; when she died in 1943, she left 14 farms and 4,000 acres to the National Trust.

The author’s beloved countryside, from Little Langdale to Coniston, in the Lake District, has therefore been protected for all to enjoy.

Guests on Saga’s new three-night Lake District break in the market town of Keswick will find the Skiddaw Hotel is a convenient base to tour Cumbria and visit Top Hill, Beatrix Potter’s former home.

Beatrix loved visiting Derwent Water while on holiday as a child and the Skiddaw Hotel is a five-minute drive away. This Area of Natural Outstanding Beauty is made up of four islands and St Herbert’s Island was the inspiration for The Tale of Squirrel Nutkin.

On July 28, it will be the 150th anniversary of Beatrix Potter’s birth and so there is no better time to visit Hill Top, which she purchased with the income from her books.

Other options while touring include the World of Beatrix Potter in Bowness-on-Windermere, where the favourite characters are brought to life, and Dove Cottage, at Grasmere, the former home of romantic poet William Wordsworth, his wife and sister.

The Saga break includes an orientation tour of Keswick with a local expert and use of the outdoor and indoor pools, hot tub, sauna and gym at sister hotel, Lodore Falls.

All breakfasts are included, as well as dinner on the first night. Guests can enjoy light bites and beverages in the Skiddaw Hotel’s Conservatory, which overlooks the square, and table d'hôte and à la carte meals at 31 The Square Restaurant.

There is no single supplement for solo travellers, subject to availability.
