Saga comments on rule changes around texting whilst driving

The Government has announced that as of next year drivers caught using mobile phones behind the wheel will get six points on their licence and a £200 fine.

Saga director Paul Green commented: "Making or receiving a call can be distracting when sat at your desk, but when sat behind the wheel of a car, van or lorry, drivers can become killers when calling or texting when they should be giving the road ahead their full attention.

"Penalty points quite rightly hit peoples' pockets when it comes to insurance, and it's good that the Government has taken action so that those caught texting whilst driving will receive more penalty points and a more worthy fine for the crime."

"A Saga poll shows that 67% of over 50s think people should be retested following a serious accident, or after they have received points on their licence."
