After being made redundant at 60, Dulcie Andrews could have been forgiven for taking some time out… Instead whilst flicking through the Saga Magzine she saw the competition to find the UKs next over 50s model. Encouraged by her daughter she applied and sent off some snaps and the rest, as they say, is history!

Saga’s 50 plus model competition, in association with Mrs Robinson agency, was looking for a fresh and natural look that represents all that is good about life after 50. The response to the competition was fantastic and Dulcie was named the winner by judges Saga Magazine’s editor Katy Bravery and Rebi Merilion from Mrs Robinson Management. From all the applicants Dulcie’s snaps really stood out – and not just because she had a great figure.

Rebi Merilion from Mrs Robinson Management and one of the judges said “Being a successful model isn’t just about looks. When we saw Dulcie’s pictures we thought ‘wow’ she’s got a great figure and fantastic eyes but what really shone through was her positive energy.”

Dulcie was absolutely delighted to hear she had won. “It was my older daughter who suggested I should enter. She’d been going on about me having a go for a while. She’d read that there was a bit of a thing going on with older models at the moment. And then I saw the competition and thought ‘why not?’ But I didn’t for one minute think I’d win”.

Having spent much of her life looking after others or putting others first, her daughters felt it was time for her to have something just for her.

Katy Bravery, editor of Saga Magazine, commented. “The rise of the older model is a marvellous thing - more and more brands are using people representative of the 50+ generation, so much so that the sight of an older face has moved out of tokenism and into mainstream. And about time too. For too long, the media in general and the advertising world in particular have worshipped at the altar of youth - while many of their customers are switched-on baby-boomers.

“Dulcie at 60 - and the other great stable of models at the Mrs Robinson agency - are finally reflecting and representing reality. People over 50 and into retirement are youthful-minded, energetic people living busy, fulfilling lives. Fact!

"Saga Magazine I hope celebrates all that is good about life after 50 and challenges any lazy preconceptions, and we're delighted with our inspirational winner.

First modelling for Saga… next stop New York?”
