This programme aims to improve the quality of education in the local area as well looking to raise the attendance rates in schools by encouraging the community to take ownership of the school and its continued development.
Having previously offered support to ‘Kok Kreul School’, by helping with repairs including a new roof, toilet block and a water supply, the trust is now embarking on a sustainable three year School Development Programme with local charity ‘This Life Cambodia’.
This local charity has chosen Chub Ta Trav Lower Secondary School, a small rural school with only 39 children in the Angkor Thom District. This is one of the poorest and most vulnerable communities in the area and is worlds apart from the luxury hotels and first class amenities of neighbouring Angkor West.
No child in this school has ever reached grade 12 due to a severe lack of resources and infrastructure. By organising a School Support Committee, aiming to encourage teachers, parents and community members to identify problems, the charity hopes to combat these issues and help move the school forward.
Unfortunately there are no quick fixes; this is a long-term and sustainable programme that will mean a better level of teaching and a brighter future for the children in this desperately poor community as well as educating the families in the importance of quality schooling.
A mid-year update on the progress of Chub Ta Trav School is available here - we look forward to updating you on its further progress.
