There are approximately 50 children, between the ages of a few months to 16 years, who are cared for at the Naxal orphanage.
About half of these children are babies and toddlers, many having been left on the doorstep by parents or family, while others are found wandering the streets and brought to the orphanage by the police.
The children live in clean but basic and crowded dormitories.
A creche cares for approximately 10 to 15 babies and there is also a pre-school class for 2-4 year olds. The older children attend a nearby school returning to the orphanage at 4 - 4.30pm.
The orphanage is full to capacity and desperately needs to relocate. With help from the Saga Charitable Trust, a beautiful plot of land has been bought on the outskirts of the city and fundraising is underway to construct the new building.
