Prayas – New Delhi

In New Delhi, the Saga Charitable Trust is working with local organisation PRAYAS to help improve the lives of young children who live and work at the railway stations.

The capital city has an estimated half a million street children, many of which live in desperate and dangerous conditions on the railway lines. To help these children face a better future, the Trust is supporting a drop-in shelter at Lahore Gate station where children receive food, clothing and emotional support in a place of safety.

Social workers provide 24-hour support and the children have access to health care and counselling as well as informal education and vocational training. We have also installed computers, to help with literacy and IT skills.

Some of these children may have travelled to Delhi from other parts of India and where appropriate, they will be reunited with their families or settled into residential care.
