Word of Hope Crèche, KwaZulu-Natal

Near the resort of Zimbali Lodge, North of Durban, the Trust is supporting a crèche, aptly named the ‘Word of Hope’. This small crèche on the edge of a new government housing development is currently the only facility for childcare in the area and consists simply of two shipping containers.

The crèche was started by a local pastor and his mother, who saw the desperate need for childcare, in an area that has been ravaged by HIV/Aids. With little money and few resources, Maria and her son Claytus knew they had to do something to help and thus the ‘Word of Hope’ was formed.

The crèche now has around 30 children and with the support of local groups and dedicated individuals, we have been able to install toilets and fund basic training in Early Childhood development.

With funds raised on the Saga Ruby World cruise 2007, we are providing more much-needed facilities, including a kitchen, playground and food garden as well as further training.
