Strictly romances

Anna May Mangan / 24 September 2015

George Bernard Shaw said that ‘dancing is a perpendicular expression of a horizontal desire’. And, season after season, Strictly Come Dancing proves that losers in the dance competition can still go on to be winners in love. Here’s a list of the show’s most kissy kissy ‘cooples’ (as Tess Daly would say)

From Russia with Love

Just watch what happens when a heaving bosom in a skin tight leopard print leotard makes contact with a rippling, lightly oiled bare chest. Eastenders' actress Kara Tointon and Russian dance champion Artem Chigvintsev displayed plenty of animal magnetism in their Strictly 2010 Cha Cha Cha. The loved up pair kept dancing and dating for four years after the competition ended.

Coochy Coo

Cute Anglo-American sweethearts Ali Bastian and Brian Fortuna danced a memorable Charleston on Strictly to the song ‘A Pencil Full of Lead’. When they were voted off the show the pair were all smiles because they were headed straight off for a romantic break in Paris.

One Heart Four Legs – Flavia Part 1

Two times World Argentine Tango Show Champions Flavia Cacace and Vincent Simone have created magic on the dance floor for the past 20 years. The Argentine Tango is described by experts as a dance of one heart and four legs and Flavia’s and Vincent’s is always shot through with passion. The duo did lots of making up and breaking up before settling down with other partners. But they do continue to sizzle on the dance floor…

Festive Fling – Flavia Part 2

Flavia had a quick dalliance with her celebrity partner Matt Di Angelo during Strictly 2007. They did a romantic Rumba to ‘Last Christmas’. Di Angelo did give Flavia his heart, but sadly for him she gave it back again.

Mr and Mrs Rhythm – Flavia Part 3

Flavia Carcace and Jimi Mistry danced a spellbinding Paso on the Strictly 2010 Halloween special to Michael Jackson’s ‘Thriller’. Just three years later they danced down the aisle together as husband and wife.

Love at First Sight

Gethin Jones and Katherine Jenkins first met when she was a guest performer on a Strictly Sunday Result’s show in 2007. Gethin’s dancing partner was Camilla Dallerup but clearly he only had eyes for Katherine because soon afterwards the celebrity pair were engaged to be married.

The Boxer and The Bombshell

Kristina Rhianoff and Joe Calzaghe danced a sensual Cha Cha Cha to ‘Chain Chain Chain’ on Strictly 2009. After the series ended these lovebirds remained chained together, romantically speaking, for four years.

Maths and Chemistry

2 0 1 3 were lucky numbers for mathematician and TV presenter Rachel Riley because it was in that year she fell for her Strictly pro partner Pasha Kovalev. The duo’s steamy dances were the countdown to the end of Riley’s 16-month-old marriage to her childhood sweetheart. Here are the loved up pair waltzing to the song ‘When I Need You’.

The Best Bromance Ever …..

And Strictly’s silver haired smoothies Bruce Forsyth and Anton du Beke, both show veterans, always make viewers feel the love when they dance together.
