Those of us in our 50s, 60s, 70s and above can benefit from tons of discounts on shopping and services. Diamond Card gardening discounts at B&Q

Every B&Q store across the UK offers a special deal for green-fingered over 60s every Wednesday.

If you fit in that age bracket, you can join B&Q's over 60s Diamond Card scheme and benefit from savings on selected gardening products – such as plants, seeds, bulbs, garden furniture and more. Card holders can also enjoy discounts on Christmas products. Yes, Christmas. Well, it’s never too early, is it. Is it?

Over 60s rewards at Boots

You might not know this yet, so listen very carefully…we shall say this only once: high street chemists Boots has a (fairly) secret rewards scheme for people over 60. Got that?

With this deal Boots Advantage Card holders can rack up 10 points - instead of the previous four - for every £1 you spend on Boots brands and selected exclusives. So for every £1 you spend, you get 10p-worth of points to spend on great brands including No7, Soltan, Natural Collection and more.

Discounts for the over 55s at Odeon cinemas

Going to the cinema these days can be a costly business. But that’s not always the case. Discounts with a Senior Railcard

When you let the train take the strain, a Senior Railcard is your passport to some serious savings.

A Senior Railcard is available to people over 60. At £30 for the whole year, it entitles you to a third off the price of standard, first class, off-peak and advance fares. Average use over a year will save you around £120 – which certainly isn’t to be sniffed at.

And here’s a thing: with your Tesco Clubcard you can convert every £1 in vouchers into £3 to spend on a one-year Senior Railcard.

And you can even ask for supermarket discounts...

If you don't ask for a discount at the supermarket, then you could be needlessly missing out on some big savings. Some in-store discounts aren't advertised - so make sure you speak up to save yourself some money.

Choosing the time that you shop can make all the difference, too. And that's not just for reduced items on the brink of their sell-by date. Later in the day it's always worth asking for a discount on fresh produce at the meat, fish and deli counters of your supermarket.
