Sailing around the Dalmatian coast - the perfect way to experience Croatia.

"Being a keen sailor and Croatian-born I have always been interested in combining my two passions. Travelling by small ship is the perfect way to visit a part of Croatia that is off the beaten track.

During my 15 years at Saga, I’ve seen small-ship cruises grow to become some of the most popular ways to explore Croatia – I hope you too will discover the joys soon!”Denis Ilic, Expert Holiday Creator

Danko Auferber, the friendly Cruise Manager aboard MV Emanuel, has worked for Saga Holidays for ten years. When asked a few questions about his role, it’s clear he loves what he does…

Danko, you’re consistently popular with our guests – why do you think that might be?

“When you like doing what you do, it's that little something which adds to the shine. I simply want to be a good host who wants his guests to have good time.

I do what I'd like to be my experience if our roles were reversed – that's all there is to it!

Is it important that you work as part of a team on board?

“Of course – it wouldn't be possible if the team I work with did not have the same attitude.

Aboard Emanuel they are all hard-working, top-class professionals who take great pride in whatever job they are doing. Without them, my job would be futile.”

In what ways do you try to make sure your guests have a fantastic experience?

“I like travelling myself and when I show guests around my country I try to compare our Croatian ways of life, standpoints and peculiarities to what I perceive as British ways.

I try to give some depth and insight to the thoughts our customers are often having, about education, cuisine, wines, politics or whatever else.

I am very proud of my country, and I just love showing it to people who came to visit it. Most of our customers are very well travelled, people who take life and its sometimes unexpected quirks in stride, so it really is fun working with them, it's always interesting.”
