The illnesses covered by this plan are consistent with the current view of critical illness held by the medical profession and the Association of British Insurers, although advances in medicine and technology mean that traditional views of critical illness are constantly changing. All specified conditions covered by the plan must be verified by a medical specialist who is a consultant at a UK hospital, who is accepted by Legal & General’s Medical Officer, and whose specialism is appropriate to the cause of the claim.
Children under the age of 18, or 21 and in full time education, are also covered for the specified conditions at no extra cost, except where the child's condition is present at birth, the symptoms first arise before the child is covered, the child dies within 14 days of meeting the definition of the critical illness, or Total and Permanent disability.
