Home counties just behind London in motor claims stakes

  • 2nd highest accident rate in the UK
  • 2nd most likely to claim overall

Research from Saga Motor Insurance today reveals the regional differences between motor insurance claims in the UK.* Motorists in the home counties are revealed as being some of the most accident prone, having 14% more accidents than the national average, they are also 10% more likely to make a claim overall, whether for accident, theft or a damaged windscreen.

Cars in the home counties appear to be worth more than any other region as claims for stolen vehicles cost 37% more to replace than the national average and almost 20% more than the next most expensive region - Cheshire. The good news is that car owners in the region are almost a third less likely to have their car stolen than the rest of the UK, suggesting either that there are less thieves in the area or that people are much better at ensuring their cars are secure.

There is evidence to suggest that accidents in the region tend to be minor scrapes than major collisions as it costs 10% less to repair accident damage to cars in the home counties than the rest of the country.
