London is motor claims capital of UK

  • Londoners are 24% more likely to make a claim

Research from Saga Motor Insurance today reveals vast regional differences between motor insurance claims in the UK. Analysis of its claims statistics have revealed marked differences in the number and value of claims made across the regions.

Londoners make the most claims overall, 24% more than the national average; they are also 82% more likely to have their vehicle stolen. In addition, the Capital's motorists are 28% more likely to have an accident, although the figures show that they are likely to be minor collisions as they cost less to fix than most other areas.

In contrast, the safest drivers are shown to live in Wales and the North East, where people make 19% less overall claims than average. People in this region are also around 15% less likely to have an accident.

Other areas with a high claims frequency include the Home Counties and the East - 10% and 9% more likely to claim respectively.
