Yorkshire's motorists more careful behind the wheel

  • Yorkshire motorists 7% less likely than UK average to have an accident
  • 5% less likely to have a claim overall

Research from Saga Motor Insurance today reveals the regional differences between motor insurance claims in the UK.* The good news is that there are 7% fewer accidents in the region than the UK average and people are 5% less likely to make a claim overall, suggesting that Yorkshire's motorists are more careful behind the wheel.

However, motorists are warned to make sure that their car is secure when they leave it as Yorkshire experiences 51% more claims for items stolen from inside the vehicle than the UK average - only London experiences more.

Saga advises drivers to make sure that all personal belongings are stored out of sight when they are not with their vehicle, even bags that have no valuables in can still look tempting to potential thieves, therefore all items should be locked away in the glove box or the boot. Motorists should also ensure that they have adequate cover for the value of the belongings they carry with them in the car.
