Top garden designer joins list of guest celebrities on Saga Cruise
London 18th May: The creator of SAGA Insurance's stunning Chelsea Flower Show garden is the latest horticultural expert to join an impressive list of guest speakers on SAGA Holidays' luxury cruises for 2006.
Cleve West will meet passengers on Saga Rose's 'Ancient Wonders of the Mediterranean' cruise on 31st October to talk about his in-depth knowledge and 20 years' experience of contemporary garden design. The award-winning designer's work has featured on several garden makeover shows including the BBC's Small Town Gardens. He also writes a regular column for the Independent Magazine.
Cleve will be joined on the 21-night cruise by herb garden specialist Jekka McVicar. Jekka, recently crowned "Queen of herbs" by Jamie Oliver, has published four successful books and makes regular appearances on TV and radio. Part of the SAGA Insurance Chelsea Flower Show garden was inspired by Jekka's vast range of herbs.
Cleve and Jekka's agreement to become guest lecturers on a SAGA cruise is another high-profile addition to SAGA's celebrity speakers list which already includes BBC's Ground Force presenter Charlie Dimmock, the Flying Gardener Chris Beardshaw, acclaimed gardening writer and radio personality Professor Stefan Buczaki and photojournalist and broadcaster John Negus.
SAGA Group Chief Executive Andrew Goodsell said: "There is a strong focus on good quality entertainment on all of our cruises and gardening is a particularly popular theme with our customers. I am very pleased that Cleve and Jekka have agreed to join this cruise, it will be a good opportunity for Saga customers to benefit from their experience and know-how and to pick up some handy tips on garden design."
