In what promises to be one of the highlights of the cruising world's 2007 calendar, Saga is taking over the Sydney Opera Theatre, within the famous Opera House for an exclusive opera performance to mark the company's tenth anniversary.

Saga Rose, the 587-capacity ship with which Saga cruises began back in 1997 and which has sailed over a million nautical miles under the Saga flag and her sister ship the 661-capacity Saga Ruby, have already embarked on their round-the-world 2007 cruise itineraries.

But on March 6, both ships will sail into Sydney Harbour - the first time the two sisters have "met" in Australia - and for Saga Group Chief Executive Andrew Goodsell, that was too good an opportunity to miss.

"We always planned to mark our tenth anniversary with something special," Andrew Goodsell says, "and we decided it would be fitting for both ships to meet half way around the world to mark this occasion. Sydney is one of the most impressive harbours we have visited over the years and it seemed right to celebrate this important date in the history of Saga Cruising there."

Billed as "A Night at the Opera", the celebrations start with a musical welcome as the two ships make their majestic entrance into one of the world's most beautiful harbours.

Passengers and guests will be invited to board Saga the Saga ships for cocktails and a black-tie dinner, hosted by Andrew Goodsell and his wife Virginia, before transferring to the Sydney Opera House for an exclusive private performance of Handel's Alcina in the Sydney Opera Theatre.

And on March 7, as the two great ships sail side by side out of the harbour, passengers will be saluted with a music-and-fireworks spectacular.
