Keep it clean to win the job, says Saga Van Insurance
- Almost three quarters of people may not use a tradesperson if their vehicle was not clean
Tradespeople up and down the country are today being warned to make sure their vehicles are clean before they show up for a job, Research by Saga Van Insurance reveals that more than eight in ten customers (84 per cent) pay attention to the condition of a tradesman's van, meaning those with dirty or disorganised vehicles could stand less chance of winning a job over their cleaner competition.
The research showed that over two thirds (66%) of people said that the condition and cleanliness of a tradesperson's vehicle may make them think twice about whether to use them as they felt the vehicle could be a reflection on their work. Over 50s were clearly the most concerned, with over half (57 per cent) making a direct link between a dirty vehicle and a potentially shoddy job.
People in Scotland appear to be the least judgemental, with 40% believing there is no direct correlation between the condition of the vehicle and the quality of the work, compared to just 30 per cent of Londoners who said the same.
Tradesmen are also being advised to take care on the roads, as over two in five people (41 per cent) said they would report a driver by calling the number on the vehicle if they felt they were driving irresponsibly. Drivers in the East Midlands and Wales could be let off more easily – just one in three people in these regions said they would report a driver (34 per cent) whereas van drivers in Scotland are advised to take extra care, with almost half of all Scots (46 per cent) prepared to complain about bad driving.
