Saga Insurance Masters players encouraged to "think 50"

Saga Insurance, sponsor of the Masters, has announced its intention to repeat its 'Saga Break' contribution to the Paul Hunter Scholarship, set up by World Snooker in the player's honour and is appealing to all players to 'think 50' and maximise the amount donated.

As announced in October 2006, the scholarship is the first of its kind and is designed to help train a talented young player for a year.

Saga provides products and services to people aged 50 and over and as such, any break above 50 during the tournament will be known as a Saga Break. Last year the total donated was 5,600. With Saga donating 50 for every Saga Break, the total donation this year could be as much as £10,000, which will add to the level and quality of training delivered by the scholarship.

Andrew Goodsell, Chief Executive of the Saga Group, said: "We would like to build on the success of last years competition. Hopefully one day we will see a graduate of the scheme taking part in the Saga Insurance Masters."

A World Snooker spokesman said "We are delighted that Saga has again chosen to support the Paul Hunter Scholarship through the Saga Breaks donation."

"The Saga Breaks idea adds an extra element to the tournament for players and fans, and the donation from the title sponsor goes to a fantastic cause."

"Last year's donation of £5,600 was of great benefit to the Paul Hunter Scholarship and we hope that, in years to come, graduates of the Scholarship will compete in the SAGA Insurance Masters"

Paul Hunter, Masters champion in 2001, 2002 and 2004, died at the age of 27 October 2006 after a battle against cancer.

Saga Insurance is now in its third year of sponsorship. This year's tournament runs from January 13 to 20 at Wembley Arena.
