Saga customers attempt record-breaking walk
From the 12-18 May 2008, over 7,000 customers and staff of Saga Holidays, the company specialising in travel for the over 50s, will walk over 7,000 miles; the equivalent from Kent to Kathmandu, in a fundraising event supporting the Saga Charitable Trust.
All customers on a Saga holiday during the week will be invited to "Walk a Mile to Raise a Smile", whether they be trekking in Nepal, on a train in Canada, safari in Kenya or on the Saga ships, Rose and Ruby.
All funds raised during the week will go to the Saga Charitable Trust which was set up to benefit underprivileged communities at destinations in developing countries that hosts Saga holidaymakers.
The policy is to invest in sustainable projects that empower and support local communities as well as offer increased opportunities for them to benefit from tourism. Funded by Saga Group, who covers all the UK overheads and administrative costs, every penny donated by customers and staff goes to help the projects.
Kaddy Lee-Preston, the BBC weather presenter will lead one of the walks taking place on 12th May near the headquarters in Folkestone with members of Saga staff and directors.
Kaddy said, "I am delighted to be involved with this event and it's definitely something that I know will be great fun to be a part of. The more I learn about the Saga Charitable Trust, the more I am impressed by the achievements."
