Saga to roar on The Lions as they maul The Springboks

Next summer Saga customers have the opportunity of not only seeing big cats roaming in some of South Africa's famous and dramatic National Parks, but also seeing 'The Lions' roaming all over the 22 of 'The Springboks' defensive line. June 2009 - the British & Irish Lions start their rugby tour of South Africa, a tradition that has been upheld since 1910, and Saga Holidays will be right there on the touchline as part of their increased and dedicated South Africa programme.

The tour only comes around every 4 years and the British & Irish Lions have not claimed a series victory since 1997, the last time they set foot on African soil.

South Africa is becoming a top destination for elite sporting events, with this tour being followed by the football World Cup in 2010. Recognising this, Saga is combining a KwaZulu Natal two or three-week safari at the intimate and African style AmaZulu Lodge with VIP tickets to the first test against South Africa and a head-to-head against the Natal Sharks. Both of these matches promise to be exhilarating spectacles under the floodlights of the 52,000-seater ABSA Stadium in Durban.

As well as the sporting events, the holiday includes a number of safari trips as well as guided walking trails through wetlands and forests and a visit to the St Lucia Estuary by boat.

Andrew Goodsell, Chief Executive of Saga, commented:

"We are delighted to offer such a diverse holiday to our customers. Not only will they see the wonderful South African topography and wildlife, but also witness some world-class rugby."

Prices start from £2199 per person for 14 nights, departing June 8 2009, £2399 per person for 21 nights departing 01 June 2009, and no single supplements. Saga ticket holders will view the Durban Sharks clash from a special enclosure and the test with the Springboks will include an exclusive lunch and talk by a guest speaker in the VIP marquee.
