Emma Soames, Editor at large, Saga Magazine comments on the report from the Age and Employment Network
Emma Soames, Editor at large, Saga Magazine comments on the report from the Age and Employment Network that demonstrates that older workers are facing increased discrimination when it comes to seeking employment: “It's extremely disturbing that, just three years on, employers are blatantly ignoring the Government's legislation to outlaw age discrimination in employment by telling people they are too old to fill vacancies. In fact in a Saga/Populus poll of 11,500 people nearly 9 out of ten (87%) agreed that with age comes experience, and with experience comes judgement.
Older workers have ridden out a volatile economy before. Employers should be looking at the experience that these older employees bring to the workplace. Far from being a liability, they could be the key to businesses overcoming and surviving the current crisis."
