Saga extends its motor insurance offering with launch of accidental healthcare cover
Saga today launches a new Accident Healthcare cover as an add-on to its motor insurance policies, offering the over 50s enhanced protection should they be involved in a road traffic accident. Now it is not just the car that can be fixed following an accident, with this cover the policyholder will be fixed too.
Worryingly, the most recent figures from the Department of Transport show that 250,000** people were injured on the roads in the UK, with the majority of these incidents resulting in minor injuries. Saga also knows that ill health is a major cause of stress and anxiety of the over 50s. With that in mind, Saga has developed this add-on to give their customers the best chance of a speedy recovery.
Accident Healthcare is available to all new and existing Saga Motor Insurance customers for the non-emergency treatment of injuries sustained in road traffic accidents in the UK. The plan will provide up to £1,000,000 cover for any private medical treatment recommended by your NHS doctor after and initial emergency treatment resulting from a road traffic accident. It is available for the monthly equivalent of £3.95 a month for individual cover, or the equivalent of £5.45 a month for individuals and their spouse or partner. It covers injuries sustained in your own car, as a driver or passenger in another vehicle or even as a pedestrian or cyclist.
The policy includes:
· in-patient treatment in a private hospital (up to 180 days)
· out-patient treatment
· consultants' and specialists' fees
· transfer by private ambulance between an NHS and private hospital of choice, if required
Should you be taken to an NHS hospital following the accident, you will also receive:
· a cash sum of £100 per night spent in an NHS hospital (up to £2,000 per accident)
· reimbursement for any NHS fixed charges
Andrew Goodsell, Chief Executive, Saga Group, commented: “Even a minor road accident can require medical treatment that can be a drawn out process. At times like these, older people in particular, value quick access to high quality care that private heathcare provides."
Having Accident Healthcare with your motor insurance gives people affordable access to private healthcare to speed them on their way to a full recovery.
The accident must be reported to the Police or the driver’s motor insurer within 24 hours of the accident.
The policy covers treatment in any hospital, day patient unit or scanning centre in the UK subject to limits of the policy.
