Jayne Keene, a Saga Independent Living Carer from Maidstone, has been awarded a national Care Worker of the Month award for March by Care Monitoring 2000, beating 25,000 other carers nationwide.
Jayne has worked for Saga Independent Living since May 2008 and provides much needed care and companionship for 10 people in the Kent area. Jayne is an invaluable asset to many of the people for whom she provides care and takes pride in not just doing a job well, but doing it on time with a smile and efficient approach.
Jayne received the award from CM2000 at a presentation on Monday 11th May following analysis of March visits. Delighted with her achievement Jayne of Saga Independent Living said “I cannot believe that out of 25,000 carers in the UK that use this scheme I have won. I enjoy my job and take real pride in a job well done and whilst I am thanked for this regularly by the people I care for and Saga it’s just amazing to receive this award by an independent company”.
Saga Independent Living provides a wide range of personal and care services in the Folkestone, Canterbury, Maidstone and Ashford area for people who want help to maintain their independence and remain living in their own home.
In order to demonstrate it’s commitment to providing customers with the highest levels of care Saga joined the nationally recognised Care Monitoring 2000. The service monitors a number of key indicators to demonstrate that customers are truly getting value for money from their care provider. The scheme is voluntary and whilst some care providers do not join, the scheme still monitors some 280 companies, around 25,000 carers nationally. The key performance indicators used by CM2000 are number of visits per month, number of visits V planned visits, duration of visits against time booked, punctuality of visits, percentage of calls made.
Peter Callander, Chief Operating Officer for Saga Independent Living commented “This is a fabulous achievement for Jayne and recognises the valuable work she does for the people she cares for. In March a number of Saga Independent Living Carers came close to winning the award demonstrating the outstanding commitment to care provided by our entire team of carers.”
Choosing a care provider is a very difficult decision and one often made at a time of great stress or need. Saga Independent Living recommends that customers sourcing care for themselves of a relative/friend ask the following questions to ensure they use a provider that is suitable for their needs:
· Will the provider take into consideration the needs of your daily life?
· Does the provider have a system to ensure the carers will arrive on time?
· If you pay for an hour, will your carer stay for an hour?
· Will the carers do what you employ them to do?
· What training will your carers have undergone?
· Will the carers treat you with dignity and respect?
