Comment on the impact that the failure to grit pavements is having on the elderly and their isolation
"The laudable efforts to grit the UK road network and attempt to keep traffic moving is all well and good, however many people are overlooking the fact that the decision to leave pavements untreated has plunged our elderly population into enforced isolation. Many are unable to leave their homes and those that do venture out find their destination changes to the local A & E department. To make matters worse many of those who rely on carers have found that this vital support has also been cut off with many, often family carers, unable to get to them.
Saga is calling for local authorities to start gritting key pavements in their areas to reduce the risk of injuries and isolation for older people and their carers.
