Saga's day at the races

Saga, the largest employer in Kent, is supporting Kent’s only racecourse, in Folkestone by sponsoring five races on Tuesday 19th January. This is the first time the company sponsored a raceday.

Roger Ramsden, chief executive, Saga Services said: “Folkestone racecourse is a firm favourite for many Saga staff and their friends and family and we are delighted to be sponsoring five great races. Our aim is both to promote our services during the televised races but also remind local people that we are still growing and need to recruit good people for our successful businesses here in Kent.”

One of the most familiar faces at the racecourse is Saga’s health insurance manager Simon Hanson. Before joining Saga Simon spent three years at a racing and breeding college, worked at top stud farms in the UK and spent 18 months at the prestigious Mill Ridge stud in Kentucky. He came back to the UK and set up his own stud farm near Folkestone, where he reared numerous winners including the Group One winner, Queen Maud.

Simon commented: “Although I have a passion for horse racing, 15 years ago I started to work at Saga and I enjoyed the company and our customers so much I decided to stay. I am able to combine my passion for Saga and racing and am looking forward to presenting the prize for the day’s feature race the Saga Health Insurance Handicap Chase.

Saga is currently recruiting for several hundred positions including sales and customer services agents, claims handlers and carers for Saga Independent Living. Those interested in applying should contact 01303 774 888 or email
