Saga launches exclusive River Cottage Experience

Saga Holidays, the leading travel company offering global adventures for the over fifties, has launched a new UK foodie experience.

With Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall inspiring us to grow, source and cook seasonal produce, Saga Holidays has launched a brand new break exclusive to the company and its customers. Foodies, gardeners and those in search of a different break will find it in Saga’s River Cottage Experience.

The four night break includes a stay in boutique accommodation at the acclaimed Bull Hotel, in the market town of Bridport, South Dorset. Guests enjoy two full days of hands-on experiences, including learning about growing, sourcing and cooking with the best seasonal produce, bread-making and wine tasting.   A wealth of tips and guidance from River Cottage’s head chef, Gill Meller, and head gardener, Mark Diacono are available during the break.

Guests will try their hand at bread making in a Grade-II list rectory and sample wines at the award-winning Furleigh Estate Vineyard.  The time at River Cottage will be spent delving into the famous kitchen garden to discover some of the unusual ingredients grown there, getting advice on how to get the most out of a vegetable patch and cooking some of Hugh’s signature dishes.

Finally guests have a day to explore the picturesque town of Lyme Regis and can opt to fish for mackerel or hunt for fossils along the Jurassic Coast, a UNESCO World Heritage site. The final night features a farewell banquet back at River Cottage.

The new Saga Holidays River Cottage Experience is an active break that will leave guests confident enough to create their own kitchen gardens full of organic vegetables and ready to try out their new cookery skills on friends and family.

Holidays start from £599 per person for four nights including all breakfasts, three dinners and two lunches, all excursions (as described), a day at River Cottage, the River Cottage banquet and the services of a Saga Representative. Departure dates are available between March-June and October-November 2012.
