On Bond’s fiftieth birthday, Saga customers vote Sean Connery the best James Bond of all time

James Bond is 50 this year! The first Bond film, Dr No, exploded onto our movie screens back in 1963.  To celebrate James Bond’s new eligibility for a Saga holiday, the over 50s specialist has asked its customers what they most love about everyone’s favourite action hero.

Favourite Bond is Connery, but Pierce Brosnan’s a hit with the ladies (no surprise there!)

A massive 60% of respondents said that Sean Connery was their favourite James Bond.  The smooth Scot was more popular with men (64%) than women (54%).

Irish hottie Pierce Brosnan was a bigger hit with the ladies, with twice as many women as men voting for him.  The younger respondents were more likely to select the more recent James Bond actors with 15% of the 50 - 54 year olds choosing Daniel Craig, compared to just 3% of those aged 75 or over.

The evil bodyguard with the bowler hat

Competition was fierce among the nasty Bond villains, but Oddjob and his famous steel rimmed bowler hat just made it to pole position, winning 20% of the overall vote for Saga customers’ favourite Bond villain.  This result wouldn’t have been popular with his boss, Goldfinger, who came second with 17%.   Ernst Stavro Blofeld took the bronze, with 15% of the vote.

Goldfinger : most popular Bond film with Saga’s customers

The 1964 film with the haunting title track was named as the favourite Bond film of all time by Saga’s customers.  This iconic film set in the US and Switzerland, starring Sean Connery as Bond and Honor Blackman as Pussy Galore, took 21% of the vote, with From Russia With Love following closely behind with 17%.  The more recent Bond film, Casino Royale, was also very popular with the 50 - 54 year olds, taking 16% of the vote in that age group.
