Exceptional choice of holidays and cruises to island where Duchess of Cambridge will represent the Queen
Celebrate Malta’s 50th anniversary of independence with Saga
The Duchess of Cambridge will be in Malta on September 20-21 to represent Her Majesty the Queen during the 50th anniversary of Malta’s independence.
The island, which is smaller than the Isle of Wight, is a place the Queen holds close to heart, having lived there for two years in the 1950s while Prince Philip was serving in the Navy.
Malta is a popular destination with Saga passengers, too, who enjoy the clear Mediterranean Sea and the island’s rich history.
Saga offers a huge variety of holidays in Malta, from seven-night Stay & Relax breaks which start at £399 to walking tours, art history trips and a Jazz in Malta break. There is an all-inclusive solo travellers-only holiday as well as a seven-night Ancient Legacies exploration of Malta’s archaeological past, studying prehistoric times to Roman rule with visits to important sites, museums and medieval monuments.
The Duchess of Cambridge will visit the capital Valletta during her first solo overseas tour.
Valletta, built by the Knights of St John in 1565 and named after the French Grand Master of the Order, La Vallette, is a regular port of call for Saga cruise ships.
Passengers find it is a wonderful place to explore on foot as it is full of historical sights and has many shops, cafés and restaurants. The city is a masterpiece of baroque architecture with narrow streets leading to pretty courtyards but Valletta also offers the best of British - almost everyone speaks English, motorists drive on the left and beer is sold in pints!
Saga Pearl II’s Christmas in the Mediterranean cruise leaves Southampton on December 21, 2014 and will dock in Valletta on New Year’s Eve where passengers will be able to watch fireworks over the Grand Harbour. What a wonderful way to continue the 50th anniversary celebrations! For details on all Saga holidays and cruises in Malta visit saga.co.uk/travel or call 0800 056 8986
Cruise prices include VIP travel service all meals and entertainment, afternoon tea, 24-hour room service, welcome cocktail party, unlimited tea and coffee, all gratuities, porterage, shuttle bus to all town centres from the port of call and travel insurance and cancellation cover
