Join Saga Sapphire’s 34-night sailing to the Caribbean
Let the sunshine in this Christmas
Celebrate Christmas while sailing on crystal waters with Saga Sapphire and warm to the festive season on sun-drenched beaches in Caribbean.
The 34-night Christmas in the Caribbean cruise departs from Southampton on December 7, 2015 and during the countdown to Christmas the 700-passenger ship will take guests to Barbados, Trinidad, St Vincent, St Lucia, Guadeloupe, Antigua and Tortola before a festive day at sea on December 25.
Saga Sapphire guests will spend Boxing Day in tropical Grand Turk before cruising to the Bahamas and on to Bermuda to celebrate New Year’s Eve.
The chic and friendly ship will be traditionally decorated and there will be music from Colin Bryant and the Hot Rhythm Orchestra who will entertain guests with jazz and swing tunes from the ‘20s to ‘40s.
During the cruise passengers will be able to relax on palm-fringed beaches or join a choice of tours to explore the Caribbean paradise islands. From Bridgetown, Barbados, there will be a snorkelling excursion or aviation enthusiasts can visit the iconic British Airways Concorde G-BOAE at the Concorde Museum.
There will be a chance to witness one of nature’s wonders from the Port of Spain, in Trinidad. Every evening at the Caroni Bird Sanctuary the island’s national bird, the scarlet Ibis, comes home to roost and the green mangroves become a spectacular sea of red. A tour not to be missed!
From Kingstown, St Vincent, guests will be able to take a catamaran to the beautiful island of Bequia for lunch at Princess Margaret Beach or enjoy a Reef Encounter at Mount Wynne to snorkel in a black coral paradise. The St Vincent Parrot Reserve, 10,870 acres of rainforest set aside to help preserve the St Vincent Parrot and its habitat, will also be a tour option.
Saga Sapphire will cruise on to Castries, in St Lucia, a lush island with banana plantations and orchards of coconut, mango and papaya trees. Here guests will be able to relax on wonderful beaches or perhaps take the Chassin rainforest aerial tram to glide silently amid the tree canopy.
In Pointe-a-Pitre, Guadeloupe, a Sugar Cane Discovery tour will visit Le Pays de la Canne. This former commercial plantation is now a museum and the tour will include a ride on the narrow-gauge railway that once transported cane to the mill.
Antigua has 365 beaches to choose from but for those who want more adventure there will be a chance to take a helicopter ride from St John’s over the island of Montserrat which suffered destruction during a volcano in 1997.
From Road Town, Tortola, guests who love taking to the air can view the British Virgin Islands in a five or seven-seat fixed wing plane - and enjoy seeing Saga Sapphire from the skies.
The ship will sail on to the south-eastern end of the Bahamas, Grand Turk, which remains largely unspoilt with stunning white sand beaches and aquamarine waters. Guests will be able to take a motorboat to the uninhabited island of Gibbs Cay to explore the coral reef, go in search of Osprey or swim with stingrays.
In the Bahamas, a Nassau City and Paradise Island tour will take guests to Fort Charlotte and Fort Fincastle to see the Queen’s Staircase and Water Tower as well as the beautiful Cloister Gardens.
On New Year’s Eve Saga Sapphire will sail in to Hamilton, Bermuda. Here guests will celebrate New Year’s Day in style, relaxing on pristine beaches or snorkelling by a coral reef teeming with colourful fish.
The garden island of Madeira and the Azores are also included in this cruise which returns to the UK on January 10, 2016.
