Prime Minister announces pensioner benefits pledge at a Saga eventMonday 23 February 2015
Commenting on today’s announcement by David Cameron, the Prime Minister, Paul Green, director of communications for Saga said:
Prime Minister announces pensioner benefits pledge at a Saga event
"The nation's over 50s think carefully about how they, their families and the country will be affected by policies before deciding which Party will win their vote. However, once decided they are more likely to cast their vote than other age groups. So each of the Political Parties needs to respond to their concerns and interests.
“We are delighted that the Prime Minister chose a Saga event at which to announce the Conservative Manifesto commitments for older people.
“There appears to be much in today's announcement that will appeal the Saga generations. A recent Saga Populus survey of some 10,000 over 50s indicated that pensioner benefits were of huge importance, with widespread opposition to giving them up or paying tax on the value of the benefits (free prescriptions - 85%, eye tests - 75%', bus pass and winter fuel allowance - 59%, TV licence - 51%).
“However, the acid test for all Parties will be on Thursday 7th May."
