2015 destination hot spots

Monday 12 January 2015

Thinking about your travel plans for the forthcoming year is always an exciting time – with so many destinations and holiday types on offer, the world really is your oyster. Saga’s recent poll asked people where they intended on travelling during 2015.

Over four-fifths of respondents have been on holiday in 2014, largely unchanged from 2013 (81%).  There was a slight increase to 84% intending to travel in 2015.

Of those who holidayed in 2014 and plan to go on holiday in 2015, nearly two thirds plan to spend the same amount on their 2015 holiday as in the previous year.  Just under a quarter plan to spend more, although nearly one in ten suggested they may spend less.  Those living in the West Midlands and Yorkshire and the Humber are most likely to travel, with 87% saying they are planning a trip abroad.

For those planning a 2015 holiday, Europe is the top choice for their travels with four-fifths saying the continent was their intended destination.  Travel to North America was the destination of choice for 15% of respondents.  This is followed by 8% travelling to Asia, and 5% travelling to Australia and Oceania.  However, nearly a tenth of respondents were still unsure where they will travel to in 2015.

Saga Travel’s Louis Myers said:

“After the festive period and when the January blues set in, people want something to look forward to and planning a holiday is the best way to start the year.  With so much on offer and so many enticing deals available, now is the time to bag a good deal.  But – if you are buying a holiday online – be aware of any hidden extras that may surprise you at the checkout.  And, if you’re buying through a travel agent, make sure you are paying for everything you want.

“The great thing about Saga holidays is they include so much in the price – there are no hidden extras. And if you book a Saga holiday early, if we ever cut our prices or bring in a new special offer before you travel, we will work out the difference and give you your money back.”
