Escape to captivating Kashmir and enjoy your very own Indian Summer

For centuries beautiful Kashmir has captivated travellers as a place of dreams and now Saga guests can experience this different side of India on a new escorted tour which includes a five-night houseboat stay.

The holiday starts with two nights at the Suryaa Hotel, in New Delhi, offering plenty of time for sightseeing in Old and New Delhi where guests will discover colourful street life, beautiful parks and fascinating architecture.

The excitement will mount when boarding the Shatabdi Express train from Delhi to Agra to view the iconic Monument to Love, the Taj Mahal, and later, the impressive Agra Fort.  Guests will spend one night at the Jaypee Palace Hotel before returning to Delhi by road and taking a flight to Srinagar.

In Kashmir, a Houseboat on the stunning Dal Lake awaits with views of the towering Himalayas. The intricately carved wooden houseboat offers peace and comfort for Saga’s guests who can take a shikara boat to the local floating market and or visit Shankaracharya Temple, dedicated to Shiva, on Gopadari Hill.

There will also be an optional evening donga cruise with music and a formal Kashmiri banquet of Wazwan cuisine, to be washed down with Kahwa, Kashmir tea.

In the 16th century Kashmir became the Moghuls’ pleasure ground, a place to escape the heat of the plains. They established elegant gardens along the shores of Dal Lake and Saga guests can enjoy visiting these unique waterside creations.

Nishat Garden boasts delightful water features and a mountain backdrop while Shalimar, created by Emperor Jehengir for his wife, has four large terraces, a pavilion surrounded by fountains and a canal flowing into the lake.

There will be further optional tours to Chashma Shahi, a small but beautifully designed garden built during Shah Jahan's reign, and nearby Pari Mahal - known as The Fairies Palace - which has seven terraces overlooking the lake.
