50 and fabulous! Noel way! Guetta outta here!

Guess which surprising celebrities turn 50 in 2017

Every year the Saga Travel team reports which celebrities will be reaching ‘the Big 50’ and 2017 will see plenty!

These well-known faces will join the exclusive club of over 50s and will be eligible to experience Saga’s selection of global adventures – proving there is life and excitement after 50 - you’ll be surprised by the names!

It’s all fantasy, but exciting to think these household names could soon be relaxing on a paradise island getaway or enjoying Saga’s award-winning cruises and tours.

We’ve chosen holidays which might suit some of the stars born in 1967 – so, drum roll, in date order:

Emily Watson OBE
January 14, 1967

British actress Emily Watson has starred in dozens of films including The Theory of Everything and War Horse. She is a supporter of several children's charities so we could take her to Cambodia to see how the construction of a new school in the village of Prasat Char is coming along. The Saga Charitable Trust is supporting the charity Globalteer’s project which will create four classrooms. We’d combine the visit with a Voyage on the Mekong cruise so she could relax after her busy schedule.
14 nights from £3199 departing London Heathrow on July 12, September 6, October 4 and November 1, 2017

John Barrowman
March 11, 1967

The all-singing, all-dancing Scottish-American entertainer will be in panto at the Birmingham Hippodrome this year, taking the lead role as Dick Whittington. After a season of searching for streets paved with gold he could leave the British winter behind and discover holiday gold on the perfect beaches of the Gold Coast, Australia during Saga’s Ultimate Australia tour.
29 nights (including 2 nights aboard aircraft) from £5,199 departing London Heathrow on April 20, May 25, June 22, September 14, October 12 and 26 and November 9, 2017

Noel Gallagher
May 29, 1967

As the lead guitarist, songwriter and vocalist for Oasis, Noel Gallagher played a huge role in shaping British rock music in 1990s. With Saga he could travel to Ubekistan on the Heart of the Silk Route tour, where in desert hinterland, sand-coloured fortresses guard oasis towns that bear romantic names like Khiva and Samarkand.
10 nights from £1,799 departing London Heathrow with a choice of departures from March to May and September to November 2017

Nicole Kidman
June 20, 1967

Born in Honolulu, Nicole has become one of the world’s best-known actresses. She starred in the box-office hits Australia and Moulin Rouge, while more recently she took on a deliciously fun role as the baddie in the movie Paddington, which was actually filmed in Costa Rica and not Peru. Saga could take her to Peru, on the Land of the Incas tour to travel through the Sacred Valley, sail on Lake Titicaca and who knows, she may bump into Paddington’s relatives!
12 nights from £2,599 departing from London Heathrow on March 14, April 25, May 9, June 13, September 5, October 3 and November 14, 2016

Pamela Anderson
July 1, 1967

The former Playboy model played the role of C. J. Parker on Baywatch from 1992 to 1997, making her one of the longest-serving cast members. She is an animal lover we would suggest Saga’s Borneo Rainforest Adventure which includes a visit to the Sepilok Orang-utan and Sun Bear Conservation Centre. Pamela could, of course, also enjoy some relaxing hours on the beach!
14 nights from £2,649 departing from London Heathrow with a choice of departure from January to June and September to November 2017

Rhys Ifan
July 22, 1967

Nobody can forget Rhys, who played Spike in the romantic comedy Notting Hill, opening the front door to greet the press pack wearing a pair of saggy grey Y-fronts. He is a king of drama so we think he’d love a fun-filled Saga cruise where he could go glamping under the stars to watch the Northern Lights.
15 nights from £2,769 departing Portsmouth on February 14, 2018

Matt Le Blanc
July
25, 1967

Star of Friends Matt could make a whole new bunch of friends on a Saga holiday. There’s an exciting batch of solo tours to choose from, so could he resist an invitation to join the Wings over the Okavango Delta tour? He could join games drives while staying overnight in tents for a genuine safari experience.
13 nights from £5,099 departing London Heathrow on March 8, 2017

Jason Statham
July 26, 1967

We think the all-action actor, former fashion model and diver (he was in the British National Diving Team and finished 12th in the World Championships in 1992) could take time out to completely relax on the Secrets of Southern France cruise – to not only immerse himself in the culture and cuisine of France but visit a Provencal ranch to discover how the Camargue cowboys help preserve herds of black bulls.
Six nights from £1,799 departing London Gatwick to Montpelier on April 7, 2017

Davina McCall
October 16, 1967

Davina’s always presenting TV shows, doing charity work and juggling a busy family life so she could recharge her batteries at the friendly Coyaba Beach Resort on the spice island of Grenada. The resort is a few steps from the 2.5-mile Grand Anse Beach so she would swim and jog along the sweeping bay to keep up her fitness routine. There are departures throughout the year but if she chose the October 11 flight she could be there for her birthday!
Eight nights (including 1 night aboard aircraft) £1,549 departing London Gatwick from January to June and September to December 2017

Julia Roberts
October 28, 1967

Eat Pray Love star Julia Roberts explored her spiritual self in the iconic movie. She now combines acting with bringing up her three children but is rarely able to escape the limelight. For some peaceful ‘Me’ time she could join the new Capturing South Wales photography holiday to photograph the beautiful landscape with the assistance of a professional landscape photographer during three full-day training shoots.
Four nights from £649 on June 25 or September 10, 2017

Rufus Sewell
October 29, 1967

Although Rufus is best known for his work in costume dramas, he loves modern pieces, such as the role of Petruchio in the BBC's version of Shakespeare's The Taming of the Shrew. For a thoroughly modern adventure he could join Saga’s new tour Where Steppe and Mountain Meet to Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan – an escorted tour in Central Asia which reveals stunning alpine scenery and mysterious ancient kingdoms.
12 nights from £2,399 departing London Heathrow on April 13, May 11 and 18, September 14 and 18 and October 12, 2017

David Guetta
November 7, 1967

Top French DJ, David plays turntables everywhere from Ibiza to Las Vegas. He loves music and dance so the Cape Verde islands could be the inspiration for his next track if he sails Saga Pearl II’s Canary Islands and Cape Verde cruise. The islands are 300 miles off the coast of West Africa and home to a unique Creole culture and the wonderful sound of Morna music. Cape Verdean Cesarie Evora collected a Grammy for her melodic morna songs, which have become the islands’ musical gift to the world.
21 nights from £2,799departing from Southampton on January 7, 2017

Boris Becker
November 22, 1967

Boris was the youngest player to win the Wimbledon Lawn Tennis championships at the age of 17. The former world No. 1 professional went on to become a six-time major singles champion and has travelled the world for his tennis career. He is now a top coach so with such a busy schedule we suggest he could take an ‘escape to paradise’ to Club Palm Bay on the west coast of Sri Lanka, where he could swim or snorkel in the crystal waters, laze on golden beaches under shady palm trees and enjoy the stunning sunsets.
Eight nights from £1,229 departing Birmingham London Heathrow and Manchester throughout January to June and September to November 2017
