Saga Exclusive Tour and Cruise: Join New Year sailing along the Pacific coast of Central America

  • Two nights in Miami

  • Transit the Panama Canal on board Holland America Line

  • Search for crocodiles in Costa Rica

  • Relax on a private island in the Bahamas

Discover the beautiful beaches, art deco architecture and eclectic food in Miami before a 14-night sailing along the Pacific coast of Central America, from Fort Lauderdale to San Diego, on an exclusive Saga tour and cruise holiday departing January 11, 2017.

Guests enjoy a two-night stay, before boarding the cruise, at the Crowne Plaza Hollywood Beach (4Q), with an included tour of Miami’s stylish art deco district and Cuban-inspired Little Havana.

Holland America Line cruise ship MS Rotterdam awaits and the ship’s first call is to Half Moon Cay, a private island the Bahamas. Here guests can relax on the palm-fringed beach, take a glass-bottomed boat ride, swim with stingrays or hire a private beachside villa.

The 1,316-passenger ship sails on to the colonial city of Cartagena, in Colombia, before transiting the locks and dams of the Panama Canal. The iconic trip from the Atlantic to the Pacific takes around eight hours.

Costa Rica is the next port of call, a land that is rich in wildlife. From Puerto Caldera there are tours through the countryside and boat rides on the Tarcoles River to look for crocodiles.

The cruise continues to the small town of Corinto, on an island on the north-west coast of Nicaragua. Guests can join excursions to a banana plantation and Cortijo El Rosario Estate and Equestrian Centre or discover the nearby city of León, which was founded by Spanish conquistadors.

Puerto Quetzal, in Guatemala, is the next stop, followed by Puerto Chiapas, a gateway to explore Mexico. Tours include discovering the ruins of Izapa, an ancient Mayan city, or the 'chocolate city' of Tuxtla Chico which is famous for its cocoa beans.

MS Rotterdam continues along the Mexican coast to the tip of the Baja California peninsula. Here the resort of Cabo San Lucas has miles of sandy beach so guests can take a horseback ride along the shore or enjoy a Jeep safari into the desert.
