"The planned strike will be disappointing for many of the Saga generations who are on a waiting list for treatment. Cancelled operations are a bitter blow to those for whom getting the right treatment in a timely fashion is essential to getting life back to normal.

"A recent poll of more than 10,000 over 50s shows that peoples' faith in the NHS is already taking a hit as two fifths of people think the health service has got worse over the last year. A strike will make it harder to restore faith in our NHS and its hard-working staff."
