Energy price cap bill welcome news for older consumers

Energy price cap bill welcome news for older consumers: SSE HLTH 4526

Commenting on the news that the bill to introduce an Energy Price Cap will be introduced to Parliament today, Matthew Bath, Saga's director of publishing and PR said:

"Today's announcement that the Department for Business Energy and Industrial Strategy have put a bill before parliament to implement an energy price cap for those on their energy supplier’s standard variable tariff is great news for the some of the most vulnerable energy consumers in the UK.

"Whilst many older consumers do now exercise their right to switch energy providers, the plethora of tariff options makes it incredibly complex for many to be able to directly compare deals - putting many off from even trying to switch. More often than not this leaves them on tariffs that are not the best or the cheapest for their individual usage.

"Many consumers are becoming increasingly concerned about paying their energy bills. In fact in a recent poll of more than 10,000 Saga members, 63% said that they were worried about the cost of their energy this winter, this compares to 44% the previous winter. Whilst energy suppliers have made progress over recent years to simplify tariffs and help sign-post consumers to better deals, for many consumers these measures simply don't go far enough so they will feel it is absolutely right for government to step in to protect those that need it most.".
