Tears of Hope for Namibia

The Saga Charitable Trust has supported a project in Namibia to help orphaned and abandoned children

Naftalina Mauha lives in a 2 bedroomed house in Swakopmund, Namibia, where she provides a home for orphaned and abandoned children, sometimes having as many as twelve children living with her.

In 2010, when the local council offered Naftalina a plot of land to use for a purpose built home for up to forty children we were contacted by a Saga customer who told us more about plans for the home. It was a great project and one we were delighted to support with a grant of £10,000 towards the cost of the building.

Customers and staff on board the Saga Ruby’s Grand Voyage then got involved in fundraising for the Tears of Hope Orphanage to further support the construction costs and work began in the spring of 2013. The building work has now nearly finished, and in September 2014 preparations for the roof were being made. The expected finish date for the orphanage is January 2015, and we can't wait to hear what Naftalina and the children think of their new home!
