The Saga Charitable Trust has worked with UK charity Deafway for many years, to deliver programmes to teach Nepali sign language to the parents and family members of deaf children. We also provided funding for the Shreejana school, funding facilities for the school as it expanded including new furniture for an extension to the hostel, which meant more children were able to attend the school and receive the benefits of an education tailored to their needs.

After the earthquakes of 2015 the accommodation block at Deafway's school in Sindhuli was completely destroyed. As children attend the school from across a huge area of Nepal, the accomodation is a crucial part of the school buildings. We are funding the reconstruction of the accomodation block, to ensure all 85 pupils have somewhere warm, safe and dry to sleep. At present, while the rebuild takes place, they are sleepign in a mix of temporary shelters and small pockets of other buildings that have been declared safe. The build is on course to be completed by late summer 2016 and we look forward to seeing the children making use of their new accommodation.
