The qualifying age for Winter Fuel Payment for both men and women is to rise in line with the increase in women’s State Pension age.

It is now £200 for every household where someone aged 60 or over lives (and £300 for someone aged 80 or more). If two (or more) people live together they get half each. Some people in care homes do not get it; others do – but only at half the full rate.

Once you have claimed the payment it will be paid for the rest of your life, even if you move outside the UK to live in Europe.

Next winter the qualifying age will be higher – your date of birth will have to be on or before January 5th 1951.
