Last May, the leading Schubert authority, and Saga music host, Brian Newbould was appointed as the BBC adviser on this project.  Brian was also commissioned to finish another Schubert symphony (his  fourth).

Symphony D, D.708a has its world premiere by the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra on 29th March which will be broadcast live at 7:30pm from Salford, with conductor Juanjo Mena. As well as being interviewed during the concert interval, Brian will be live on air about eight times
during the 8 day event.

Brian Newbould, internationally known as a Schubert scholar, is a specialist in the music of the Classical period, with wider historical interests beyond that. His realisations of symphonies left unfinished by Schubert first brought him to international attention, since then he has written books on Schubert, pursued related musicological issues in articles, and completed other
non-orchestral sketches.

Brian is hosting a 'Celebrating the Piano' holiday for Saga in Bournemouth, with Ann Airton which will include four recitals (solo and duet). Brian will examine how easily the piano moves from Beethovenian barnstorming to pure 'chillout'.

I was struck with admiration by the realisation and performance of Symphony in D, D708 on March 29th. I devoutly hope that this concert might be repeated, or better stillthat there is a recordinng planned.
