You can open any Saga Share Direct account if you’re 50 or over and a UK resident.


There are no costs for opening a Saga Share Direct account, regardless of which one of our share dealing accounts you choose. And there are no account management fees either.


Saga Share Direct provides a range of educational information to help you understand how to use the service, and also provides some ideas about how you might want to invest. Saga Share Direct cannot give you advice or make recommendations about where to invest your money. However, your share dealing account comes with substantial online resources that can help you make your own informed investment decisions. You can also set up a virtual portfolio where you can practise investing and see the results of the choices you made.

 



If you’re an experienced trader or interested in the more advanced and technical aspects of self-investing, you’ll find Saga Share Direct’s range of resources invaluable. By using tools and analysis taken from market-leading providers, such as Digital Look, you can quickly and easily find equities that fit your specific criteria or scrutinse an entire market segment in one simple screen.





Nominee Share Dealing Account

Yes – and we’ll do all the hard work for you, making it easy for you to transfer to Saga Share Direct. Here’s more information.

Opening an account is very simple. It takes less than 10 minutes to do it online – you’ll need your National Insurance number (or tax identification code) and bank account details. Alternatively, call 0800 015 9151  to request an application form in the post. Lines are open Monday to Friday, 8am–6pm (except bank holidays).

 

Commission costs vary depending on the type and frequency of your trading. It can cost as little as £9.75 a trade with a frequent trader discount that’s awarded on the tenth trade within a calendar quarter. Here’s a list of all our charges.

You can deal in UK and international shares, gilts, bonds, exchange-traded funds (ETFs), funds, warrants, unit trusts and open-ended investment companies (OEICs).

 

As part of your account, there is a range of news, analysis and tools to provide you with valuable company and market insight, such as:

  • Top 10 trades – see how fellow Saga Share Direct customers traded yesterday and over the past week
  • Top stock list – Choose your investments from a selection of company fundamentals, including factors such as highest dividend yield and broker recommendations
  • Performance tables – Review market and company performance based on a variety of factors
  • Heat maps – Use our quick and easy heat map tool to identify opportunities and risks across a selection of markets
  • Risers and fallers – see quickly and easily which companies are having a good – or bad – performance on the day.
  • Corporate actions – an ‘at a glance’ view of current and future corporate actions
  • Charting – use a variety of charting tools to view the performance of companies and markets over a time period of your choice.
 

Shares ISA

Yes – from April 2019 Saga Shares ISA became flexible. This means that you can withdraw cash from your account and replace it later in the same tax-year without it counting as a subscription.

No – it has to be held in a sole name. If you want a joint account, the Nominee Dealing Account can be held in joint names.

Certificated Share Dealing Account

Opening an account is very simple, just call 0800 015 2542. Lines are open Monday to Friday 8am–6pm (except bank holidays).

Your Certificated Share Dealing Account is managed over the telephone. If you have any queries regarding your account or wish to make changes to your details, you can call the Customer Service Team on 0800 015 9278.

 

You can deal only in UK shares.

Depending on the value of your sale or purchase, our commission starts from £25 up to a maximum of £100. Our commission is not based on the percentage of your trade value, making it easier for you to compare our charges. Here’s a list of all our charges.

 

The proceeds of your sale, minus any commission charges, will be paid into your bank account on or soon after the settlement date.
